ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is the specialized agency of the United Nations that promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization and environmental sustainability. The mission of UNIDO is to promote and accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) in Member States. The relevance of ISID as an integrated approach to all three pillars of sustainable development is recognized by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNIDO's mandate is fully recognized in SDG-9, which calls to "Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation".
The Directorate of Global Partnership and External Relations (GLO), headed by a Managing Director, is responsible for UNIDO's relations with Member States and all external partners. It plays a central role for interaction and collaboration with traditional and non-traditional donors; oversees the regional bureaus as well as the network of established field offices, liaison offices and Investment and Technology Promotion Offices; and supports the implementation of particularly complex projects, programmes and special assignments.
PROJECT CONTEXT
The General Conference is UNIDO's supreme policymaking organ and meets every two years. It determines the guiding principles and policies of the Organization, approves its budget and work programme and elects the members of its other policymaking organs. The twenty-first session of the General Conference of UNIDO (GC.21) will be held from 23 to 27 November 2025, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Director of the Division of Policymaking Organs, the GC Administrator's main responsibility is to coordinate the preparation, delivery and follow-up of selected components of the twenty-first session of the General Conference. The incumbent shall carry out the following main duties:
- Prepare, deliver and follow-up on the pre-GC.21 promotion events and engagements, as well as GC.21's programme of thematic events.
- Prepare and provide relevant information, documents and templates to support the preparation of all activities related to the programme of thematic events.
- Monitor progress in the preparation of the programme of thematic events, identify problems and propose actions to expedite the delivery of inputs.
- Coordinate the development of the Conference App for participants.
- Provide guidance to both internal and external stakeholders to facilitate participation.
- Prepare an internal outcome report with lessons learned and proposed measures to improve preparations.
- Perform other duties as required and instructed by the Director, GLO/PMO.
MINIMUM ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Education
Advanced university degree (master's or equivalent) in engineering, sciences, economics, business administration, international relations or other relevant discipline with specialization in event management, is required.
Technical and functional experience
- At least three (3) years of work experience in areas relevant for the recruiting office is required.
- Expertise and work experience in event management, in particular in the framework of multilateral organizations, is required.
- Ability to research and analyse information is required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment is required.
- Exposure to the needs, conditions and problems in developing countries is desirable.
Languages
Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Fluency and/or working knowledge of another official United Nations language, particularly Arabic is desirable.
