The Faculty of Psychology at the University of Vienna comprises, beside the Dean's office and the StudyServiceCenter, four Departments and the Outpatient Unit for Research, Teaching, and Practice.

The position will be affiliated with the Outpatient Unit and will be supervised by the head of this unit (PD DDr. Ricarda Nater-Mewes) and the Professorship for Clinical Psychology of Adulthood (Prof. Dr. Urs Nater). It is a doctoral (PhD) position.

The holder of the position will work in the area of psychological factors in bodily symptoms, with the aim to develop and evaluate new interventions based on previous works of the research groups involved.

Through the supervision of the Professorship of Clinical Psychology of Adulthood, the involvement into state-of-the-art bio-psychological research is facilitated. With the affiliation to the psychological Outpatient Unit, this will be complemented with expertise in intervention research.

The announcement is made for four years, whereby the employment relationship is initially limited to 1.5 years and is automatically extended to a total of four years, unless the employer submits a declaration of non-renewal after a maximum of 12 months.


Duration of employment: 4 year/s

Extent of Employment: 30 hours/week

Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: -48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Participation in research, teaching and administration:

  • Participation in research projects / research studies on bodily symptoms
  • Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations
  • Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement.
  • Supervision of students
  • Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration

Your tasks include in particular:

  • Planning and execution of empirical studies, particularly intervention studies.
  • Presentation of research results at national and international conferences.
  • Publication of research results in international scientific journals.
  • Participation in the acquisition of new research projects.
  • Independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement.
  • Participation in the faculty's and department ́s administration.

Profile:

  • Master's degree or diploma in psychology
  • Strong motivation to engage in research in the field of clinical psychology of adulthood, especially in the field of psychological interventions in bodily symptoms.
  • Very good knowledge of quantitative methods of analysis
  • Ability to present and process research questions in a structured way
  • Ability to work in a team
  • High commitment and initiative
  • Very good command of written and spoken German and good command of written and spoken English
Desirable qualifications are

  • First experiences in planning and conducting intervention studies.
  • Teaching experience / experience of working with elearning

  • Basic experience in research methods and academic writing
