The department of linguistics at the University of Vienna is looking to fill a prae-doc position in theoretical linguistics, with a focus on formal semantics and pragmatics.

We offer a lively and international research community and a stimulating environment for completing a linguistic dissertation, flexible work hours and arrangements, and the possibility for academic cooperation locally and internationally.

The successful applicant will be expected to do their research project under the (co-)supervision of Univ.
Prof. Dr. Daniel Büring, as well as to lend support in research and teaching.


The employment relationship is initially limited to 1.5 years and is automatically extended to a total of 4 years, unless the employer submits a declaration of non-renewal after a maximum of 12 months.


Duration of employment: 4 year/s

Extent of Employment: 30 hours/week

Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: -48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Profile:


Applicants must have a Master or comparable degree in general linguistics at the time of employment, with a specialization in, and excellent command of, formal, truth conditional semantics or pragmatics.

They need to be fluent in English, and are expected to present their dissertation work in national and international venues.


Additional assets include:
- expertise in another linguistic subdiscipline, particular syntax, prosody or psycholinguistics - knowledge of statistical and/or corpus based methods - knowledge of German - knowledge of a further, possibly non
  • Indoeuropean, language experience in teaching international experience work experience in non academic fields.
The applicant's research interests and dissertation topic are flexible, but definitely need to be in the area of formal linguistics.


Excellent analytical skills, excellent writing skills, good teamworking abilities, flexibility in work hours, ability to do research and organizational work responsibly, reliably and self-propelled.
