The Professional Development Officer (PDO) is responsible for coordinating the delivery of operational education and training packages, including manuals and supporting documentation, to staff within the QAS Operations Centres. The QAS Operations Centres are innovative, state of the art facilities that provide responsive and effective emergency incident call taking and dispatch services to the QAS.
The Professional Development Officer will provide support to the Operations CentreDirector and/or Executive Manager in implementing reforms and service improvement initiatives and will contribute to the overall future direction of QAS service delivery. The role will ensure that high quality, timely and appropriate prehospital care and transport services are provided to the Queensland community and will actively contribute to the achievement of QAS business objectives.
- Monitor, review, evaluate and report on training, education and professional development requirements for Operations Centre employees.
- Develop strategic training plans, annual training programs and personalised remedial training plans as required, in consultation with staff, supervisors, the Manager Clinical Education and the Operations Centre Director / Executive Manager.
- Assist with the design, development, implementation and delivery of best practice education programs within the Operations Centre under the direction of the Manager, Clinical Education.
- Ensure the Operations Centre education programs are designed and delivered in accordance with QAS policies and procedures, registered training organisation requirements, tertiary education sector standards and regional accreditation requirements.
- Assist in developing and monitoring staff performance criteria and audit requirements in relation to the professional development and progress of Operations Centre employees.
- Ensure continuous quality improvement processes are developed and implemented within the professional development stream, in conjunction with the introduction of additional technologies, business process re-engineering and organisational changes.
- Act as a role model, mentor and coach to all Operations Centre staff by spending the majority of time on duty involved in direct contact with the operational environment.
- Prepare routine and specific reports for the Operations Centre Director / Executive Manager as required.
- Actively promote the principles of collaborative teamwork and quality client service and contribute to the achievement of Operations Centre goals.
- Apply contemporary human resource management strategies and practices to ensure optimum management of projects, achievement of business objectives and development of staff.
- Lead and manage staff in emergency management capability for disasters, major incidents and mass crowd gatherings, in close consultation with the Director Operations - Emergency Management, State Headquarters.
- Maintain credentialed scope of clinical practice as approved by the Medical Director and/or Commissioner, QAS.
- As a leader, actively demonstrate and promote the QAS's approach of zero tolerance towards violence and commit to supporting those affected by domestic and family violence in accordance with QAS policies and mechanisms. Model and influence a workplace culture of gender equality, respectful relationships, diversity, inclusion, employee safety and support.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with Queensland Public Sector and QAS values
