About Inland Rail

Inland Rail is a once-in-a-generation project that will complete the backbone of Australia's freight rail network. It will enhance supply chains by providing a transit time of 24 hours or less for freight trains between Melbourne and Brisbane. Inland Rail will connect regional Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland to markets more efficiently, drive substantial cost savings for producers and consumers, and deliver significant economic benefits. Inland Rail is the largest freight rail infrastructure project in Australia and one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the world.

About the opportunity

As the Senior Project Manager for structures you will lead and manage a team through the delivery of multiple enhancement site packages across the Albury to Parkes alignment. You will be responsible for the successful delivery of structure modifications, replacements and renewals and related rail, signalling and civil works on the Albury to Parkes enhancement project. This shall be in accordance with the agreed scheduled timeframe and budget. Identify and manage project related Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) risk.

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Lead and execute infrastructure projects including multiple technical disciplines and services associated with the Inland Rail Program.
  • Be responsible for achieving the project objectives and fulfilling the quality, scope, cost, scheduling, safety and environmental compliance outcomes.
  • Report to the A2I/S2P Delivery Director on the physical and financial progress issues related to the project to ensure timely and accurate information is provided where necessary.
  • Lead a team of engineering staff to successfully achieve the coordination of multiple deliverables to attain the projects and the overall Inland Rail Program objectives.
  • Actively manage the project delivery risks and identify and implement risk and opportunities under the ITC contract arrangements with the Contractor.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of the project(s) by conducting regular reviews of project milestones against actual indicators to resolve issues as they arise to mitigate any impact on project delivery.
  • Manage financial forecasting and reports on allocated projects. Ensure the timely and accurate completion of monthly reports as well as ensuring cash flows and forecast costs are accurately reflected in the ARTC accounting system.
  • Ensure that all third party obligations are identified, tracked and delivered in respect to third party asset works such as councils, utility owners and works carried out under the TfNSW Master Framework Deed.
    Ensure that the Independent Certifier activities are coordinated and carried out in compliance to the Returned Works for TfNSW.

To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:

  • Degree in project management, engineering, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Proven experience working in lead client-side delivery roles on complex road, rail, and civil structures infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience in complex stakeholder negotiations and agreements with significant commercial implications to achieve consensus on schedule issues.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in railway operations, conducting activities under working in corridor and possession regimes.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in road occupancy procedures and practices on active council and TfNSW networks.
  • Strong ability to communicate within multi-disciplinary teams, and articulate schedule risk and opportunity in clear terms, to support decision-makers.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to negotiate and influence outcomes and resolutions.
  • Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills, with a demonstrated ability to analyse complex issues.
  • Drivers Licence - Class C.
  • Advanced knowledge of railway renewals and/or construction.
  • Sound understanding of workplace health and safety, rail safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
