Mount Isa Water Board (MIWB) supplies bulk water to industrial customers and portable water to Mount Isa City Council, supplying water to Mount Isa City Council. MIWB activities ensure existing industrial businesses are sustained and emerging businesses have access to this essential, enabling resource.

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Asset Engineer, the Asset Management Coordinators' role is to assist in the development, implementation, and management of MIWB’s lifecycle asset management capability across the business to deliver on customer and community expectations.

This is achieved by an efficient and effective implementation of asset management strategies, frameworks, long-term plans, policies and procedures, and management of systems to ensure MIWB’s delivery of bulk water and R48 maintains an acceptable risk profile.

Asset reliability is of primary importance, so the Asset Management Coordinator will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including the Senior Water Treatment Lead, process engineers, water quality advisors, and internal stakeholders, to ensure successful asset planning outcomes.

The Asset Management Coordinator will play a role in the Operations Division and will have highly developed relationship management, personal organisation, and commitment to providing clean and safe water to customers and the community of Mount Isa. In addition to the above, the Asset Management Coordinator may directly manage and supervise a Direct Report. 

Responsibilities of the Role

Strategic Asset Management

  • Assist the Senior Asset Engineer in MIWB’s asset management capability to support the achievement of strategic outcomes.
  • Assist in developing a clear picture of long-term asset management expenditure requirements to meet customer value expectations.
  • Integrate asset management with other key corporate activities, including demand analysis and asset planning, organisational risk, customer expectations, health and safety, operations, delivery, and financial planning.
  • Assist as the asset owner in the development of capital projects from the planning phase through to completion.

Asset Management Governance and Risk Management

  • Ensure audits and maturity assessments are undertaken to confirm asset management policies, procedures, systems, and data are aligned with best practice principles.
  • Apply sound risk management practices to ensure the mitigation of risks and effective management of infrastructure assets. 

Asset Management Information

  • Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining an asset management information strategy and system roadmap to ensure MIWB has the information required to make efficient and effective asset management decisions.
  • Analyse asset data to inform optimal asset management programs.

Operational Asset Management

  • Maintain and manage the CMMS system to ensure all data, such as plans, assets, maintenance, change management, and expenditure, is reviewed and actioned on time and accurately. 
  • Manage system accesses, permissions and security rights, including user access requests. 
  • Ensure all systems are monitored, maintained, integrated, and continuously improved to provide accurate, high-quality data that inform sound decisions.

Budget and Cost Control

  • Collaborate with external contractors, consultants, and suppliers to procure necessary resources, equipment, and services for the plant and network operations.
  • Assist in sourcing and negotiating contract terms and conditions and successfully engage appropriate service providers/suppliers per MIWB Procurement Policy. 
  • Ensure agreed contracts are adhered to, and obligations are met in accordance with MIWB requirements through contract auditing and reporting. 
  • Review and approve (in accordance with the MIWB Delegations Framework) invoices, change work orders, and payment requests from contractors and vendors in a timely manner.

Stakeholder Engagement and Management

  • Liaise with government agencies, community representatives, and other stakeholders to address concerns, provide updates, and maintain positive relationships.
  • Collaborate with external contractors, consultants, and suppliers to procure necessary resources, equipment, and services for the plant and network operations.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with external partners, including contractors, suppliers, and regulatory authorities.
  • Establish a reputation for reliance and trust across the spectrum of stakeholders, including other levels of government, board members, management, peers, fellow workers, and the public. 

Team Leadership and Development

  • Model the behaviours and capabilities of a Team Leader as set out in the Leadership Competencies for Queensland Framework. 
  • Provide clear direction, guidance, and support to their direct report, fostering a positive and productive work environment. 
  • Lead the development and delivery of training programs related to compliance in water quality & environmental management to employees and relevant stakeholders. 
  • Ensure training plans are followed through and are up to date for staff. 
  • Participate in recruiting, onboarding, and training new staff member(s) and ensuring the right skills and experience are in place. 
  • Set performance expectations, conduct probation reviews, performance reviews and My Year Ahead Conversations, and provide ongoing feedback and coaching to their direct reports. 
  • Encourage professional development and growth opportunities for team members. 
  • Foster teamwork, collaboration, and effective communication among team members and across departments. 
  • Manage leave requests for Direct Reports and/or other personnel, as required from time-to-time. 

Additional Requirements

  • This role has a rostered on-call component as set out in the Employment Contract.
  • This role may directly manage and supervise a Direct Report. 
  • Relevant asset management qualifications, or recognised prior learning based on >2 years’ experience in a similar role and the ability to obtain a relevant qualification within 3 years of commencement. 
  • Experience in asset management of water or wastewater assets.
  • Experience with water industry asset creation, construction, maintenance, decommission, demolishment, and disposal processes.
  • Leadership and strategic management and planning skills and the ability to deliver results in an environment of change.
  • Budgeting and cost control experience.
  • Occupational health, safety, and environmental principles and demonstrated track record in safety and environmental performance.
  • Experience and knowledge of water treatment processes.

Appointment is subject to:

  • A satisfactory National Police Clearance. 
  • A satisfactory Medical and Job Task Evaluation (JTE). 
  • Confirmation of Australian Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status. 
  • Relocation to Mount Isa, prior to commencement of the role.
