Dairy Food Safety Victoria (DFSV) is a statutory authority established by the Victorian Parliament under the Dairy Act 2000, that reports to the Minister for Agriculture. DFSV is responsible for regulating the Victorian dairy industry to ensure that food safety standards which safeguard public health are maintained.
The successful candidate will be a proven senior leader in food regulation with demonstrated ability to deliver strategic results in both the public and private sector.
Reporting to the CEO, this position will be responsible for leveraging technology to accelerate our regulatory culture, drive collaboration with other government agencies and maximise the impact of our work. The General Manager Operational policy and Innovation will lead our organisation’s digital strategy and horizon scanning to drive innovation in food regulation.
The role:
The General Manager Operational policy and Innovation is a co-lead with the CEO and General Manager, Operations to support and embed a professional regulatory culture at DFSV. As part of the Executive Team, the General Manager, Operational policy and Innovation supports the CEO in the formulation and delivery of DFSV’s vision, strategic direction and objectives, and operational policy.
Drawing on previous experience leading cutting edge innovation projects, this role is accountable for the executive management and strategic development of DFSV’s Emerging Issues Analysis (EIA) program, including horizon scanning, scenario and strategic planning. Bringing an existing network of food regulation relationships, the General Manager Operational policy and Innovation will play a key influencing role in the development of strategic partnerships and alliances with key stakeholders to maximise outcomes and deliver on DFSV’s strategic direction.
This is an executive level fixed term role for 5 years.
Key requirements:
• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as food safety, food technology, microbiology, public health or science is essential.
• Post graduate qualifications in public health administration or other relevant discipline are favourable.
• Experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams, building team culture and change management.
• Experience in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and innovation
• Managing and motivating staff
• Strategic thinking
• Experience in implementing compliance and enforcement services across a diverse customer (licensee) base (e.g. farmer to large multinationals)
• Experience in a regulatory operations setting.
• Highly proficient in understanding and interpreting legislation
• Experience in communicating at Board level (written reports and presenting)
• A working knowledge of food safety standards, systems and legislation
• Experience in food manufacturing, production and distribution processes or primary production systems would be an advantage (preferably within the dairy sector).
