**Main responsibilities**:

- Assist in developing an annual monitoring and audit plan using appropriate risk-based methodology, including any risk or control concerns identified by the management.
- Assist in implementing the annual monitoring and audit plan, as approved, including, and as appropriate, any special tasks or projects assigned by line manager.
- Execute and deliver monitoring and audits in line with industry best-practice methodology and ACCA Code of Ethics, including producing audit reports which are impactful and address the root cause of issues.
- Perform monitoring and auditing work of the charity’s partners in the UK and Overseas to assist senior management in meeting the Charity's strategic objectives.
- Support the partners in their day to day implementation of the fund management system for grants. Including support with queries, entries and budget management.
- Highlight risks for inclusion in the Charity’s Risk Register as appropriate.
- Issue periodic reports on special audits assigned by senior management.
- Assist in the investigation of suspected fraudulent activities in the Charity’s partner offices.
- Assist in managing all allocation of financial audit processes effectively and look to continuously improve them.
- Conduct audit and verification on procurement and other finance related areas.
- Prepare a tailored plan for all assignments based on a good understanding of the terms of reference and the applicable contractual conditions.
- Be part of fieldwork teams on overseas assignments or work alone.
- Demonstrate the ability to identify issues and areas of non-compliance on an assignment and write them up as findings in a detailed, precise and clear way in the assignment report.
- Be able to work to tight deadlines and manage time effectively.
- Be prepared to be out of the office on international assignments for up to 40% of the time.

**Qualifications & Experience**:

- A professional accountancy part or full qualification (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent) with three years proven track record of NGO monitoring/ audit experience
- Experience in assurance, controls and/or compliance-related roles, including consulting, auditing, risk management. Experience should include performing internal audits from the beginning of an engagement through to completion.
- Experience in evaluating control design and operating effectiveness under an internal control framework.
- Proven ability to create an effective risk-based audit plan in alignment with the organisation's strategy.
- A genuine interest in International Development and love of international travel preferably with experience of working or volunteering internationally.
- A second language, especially French and Arabic preferred but not essential.
- An ability to carry out written and oral communication in a professional, constructive and respectful manner.
- Strong background and experience with audit methodologies and techniques.
- Strong time management and organisational skills.
- Ensure assurance quality at all times and compliance to policy and procedures.
- Dealing with Finance and Audit related queries, concerns and comments from external agencies, donors and organisations in an efficient and effective manner.

**Person Specification - Desirable**:

- Knowledge of forensic auditing techniques in fraud prevention, deterrence, and investigation is desirable.

**General Responsibilities**:

- To support fundraising activities from time to time, including committing to partake in approximately five live TV Appeals during our peak periods.
- To undertake any reasonable responsibilities as required by your Line Manager.

**Other Requirements**:

- Must be able to demonstrate current eligibility to work within the United Kingdom.
- Must be able to either: provide a valid DBS certificate (issued within the last year) when requested by Muslim Hands; OR Undertake to provide full cooperation for Muslim Hands to perform a DBS Check at the required level appropriate for this / similar role.
