The post is located in the Conference Support Section (CSS), Organized Crime and Illicit Trafficking Branch (OCB), Division for Treaty Affairs (DTA) of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The incumbent reports to the Chief of the Section.

**Responsibilities**:
Within assigned authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following specific duties:

- Support States parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and its three Protocols during the information gathering process of the review mechanism, including through the secure module of the Sharing Electronic Resources and Laws on Crime Knowledge Management Portal (SHERLOC) dedicated to the review mechanism.
- Support knowledge management systems related to the review mechanism, including the gathering of information on the implementation of UNTOC and its three Protocols.
- Support and coordinate the participation of States Parties in the review process.
- Provide advisory services to Member States on the UNTOC review mechanism and related tools.
- Draft various written outputs pertaining to the review mechanism of UNTOC and its Protocols, including the general reports of the review process.
- Organize and service sessions of the Conference of the Parties and its Working Groups, as required.
- Carry out legal research on efforts by States parties to implement the UNTOC and its Protocols, including the gathering and analysis of relevant legislation, case law and policies.
- Contribute to the planning, organizing and substantive servicing capacity-building activities, including trainings on the implementation of the review process of the mechanism for the review of implementation of UNTOC and its Protocols, including the filling of self-assessment questionnaires, and legislative assistance to combat organized crime.
- Participate in the monitoring and advocacy of the Global Programme to support the UNTOC review mechanism.
- Provide input for the preparation of briefing notes, talking points, speaking notes, speeches and coordination of a variety of inputs on UNTOC and its Protocols for senior management and/or States parties.
- Perform other work related duties, as required; including tasks within CSS to support States in implementing UNTOC, adopting and/or amending relevant legislative instruments.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, international law, criminology, or international relations or other related fields.

A specialization in international law or criminal law is desirable.

A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in crime prevention and criminal justice matters is required.

From the minimum five years relevant professional experience, two years work experience in international cooperation on criminal matters is required.

Work experience with intergovernmental processes is desirable.

Experience in providing legislative assistance is desirable.

Experience within the United Nations System and/or a similar international organisation is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official language of the United Nations System is an advantage.
