- Responsibilities
- Within assigned authority, the incumbent will carry out a range of functions to facilitate and assist with the preparation of written documents of the review process of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and the Protocols thereto and provide support to related intergovernmental meetings to contribute to the Review Mechanism of UNTOC and the Protocols thereto. In particular, the incumbent will perform the following specific duties: - Coordinate the servicing of sessions of the Conference of the Parties and its Working Groups, as required, and in particular in regard to any agenda item focused on the review mechanism of UNTOC. Facilitate joint intersessional meetings for the purpose of the repetition of the drawing of lots and the constructive dialogues held after the sessions of the working groups. - Organise, draft and prepare substantive inputs for the agenda item on the review mechanism before and during intergovernmental meetings, including parts and sections of reports, briefing notes, speeches, and related documentation. - Collect and analyze data for the identification of trends and patterns of Parties in their implementation of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and its three Protocols, and provides insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. - Participate in the information gathering process of the review mechanism, including through RevMOD, the online platform to conduct country reviews. - For assigned UNTOC country reviews, coordinate and monitor the entire review process (including, facilitating consultations and dialogue between reviewed and reviewing parties) including on the establishment or update of timeframes, support the participation of nominated focal points and governmental experts in the review process and identify challenges and obstacles to the advancement into the next thematic cluster. - Monitor knowledge sharing on the review mechanism and the maintenance and development of related tools to facilitate focal points and governmental experts’ participation in the process. - Draft various written outputs pertaining to the review mechanism of UNTOC and its Protocols, including the general reports of the review process utilizing graphs, charts, and data visualization methods for data-driven presentation and reporting. - Contribute to the planning, organizing and substantively servicing capacity-building activities, including trainings on the implementation of the review process of the mechanism for the review of implementation of UNTOC and its Protocols, including the filling of self-assessment questionnaires, and legislative assistance to combat organized crime. - Participate in the monitoring and advocacy of the Global Programme to support the UNTOC review mechanism. - Provide and coordinate a variety of inputs on UNTOC and its Protocols for senior management and/or States parties. - Perform other work-related duties, as required; including tasks within CSS to support States in implementing UNTOC, adopting and/or amending relevant legislative instruments.

- Education
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, international law, criminology or related field is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A specialization in international law and criminal law is an advantage.

- Work Experience
- A minimum of five years of professional work experience in crime prevention and criminal justice matters at the international level, including in international cooperation in criminal matters is required. Work experience engaging in intergovernmental processes is required. Work experience drafting analysis documents is required. Work experience servicing intergovernmental bodies and providing legislative assistance is desirable. Practical experience working with UN programme policies, guidelines and procedures is desirable. Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
- Languages
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.
