- Responsibilities
- Within assigned authority, the incumbent will provide administrative support for the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of project activities in countries in Africa. The incumbent is responsible for undertaking the following specific duties/tasks: - Provide support in conceptualizing, planning, organizing and implementing technical and capacity building assistance activities, aimed at strengthening the capacities of criminal justice and other relevant counterparts to prevent and counter terrorism, violent extremism and related crimes. - Contribute to providing specialized knowledge for designing and implementing training activities in Africa focusing on international judicial and police cooperation and other criminal justice aspects, for ensuring rule of law-based and human rights-compliant investigations and prosecutions of terrorism-related cases. - Provide support with the assessment of capacity building needs of concerned national entities; contribute to conceptualizing, designing and carrying out training workshops and other relevant initiatives for prosecutorial/adjudicator capacity building and enhancing collaborative investigation, prosecution and adjudication; provide on-going advisory services to national authorities on related matters. - Contribute to the coordination and management of capacity building projects by supporting the organizational, logistics, administrative, and financial aspects, including recruitment of consultants, procurement and budgetary matters; identify issues to be addressed and recommend corrective actions; liaise with relevant parties; identify and track follow-up actions. - Provide support to the financial management of projects, by contributing to the monitoring of budget expenditures, utilization of funds and ensuring compliance with agreements and requirements. - Support the development of project proposals on assigned countries and thematic areas and related budgets, including organizing discussions with counterparts and donors and ensuring that each proposal is based on the stated needs of the beneficiary countries, contributing to funds mobilization activities, and contributing to the preparation of project proposal narratives and budgets, including the drafting and editing. - Assist in the drafting of relevant project reports, and support project monitoring and evaluation. - Undertake missions to African countries requesting assistance, and prepare and participate in national expert workshops, sub-regional / regional workshops and conduct training activities, as determined. - Contribute to ensuring that the work programme and the activities are carried out in coordination with other relevant entities, including UNODC regional desk, country and regional offices and other global programmes, and in liaison with relevant organizations of the United Nations system and as well as with other international/regional organizations and Member States. - Contribute with building strategic partnerships with UN entities, regional and specialized organizations, civil society organizations and non-governmental organizations, and contribute to the development of joint projects in the area of terrorism prevention. - Contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, including briefing notes, background papers, briefing material, presentations, analytical notes, reports and studies, web stories, inputs to publications and official correspondence of the Section, and make presentations, as needed, on assigned topics. - Review relevant documents and reports; identify problems and issues to be addressed and recommend corrective actions; liaise with relevant parties; identify and track follow-up actions. - Contribute to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provide draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. - Perform other work-related duties as required.

- Work Experience
- A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in the area of terrorism prevention focused on criminal justice and the rule of law, OR the successful completion of the Young Professionals Programme Examination/the United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P) is required. Experience in project development, coordination and management, including in the area of criminal justice and terrorism prevention is desirable. Experience in organizing meetings, conferences, seminars etc., including their substantive, logistic and administrative aspects, is desirable.
