The Salzburg Centre of European Union Studies (SCEUS) is advertising two 3-year doctoral

contribute with their PhD projects to the topic “Challenges of European Integration”. We invite

applicants with research interests in (1) political science, (2) law, or (3) economics and willing to

engage and cooperate with the other disciplines.

of approx. € 2,458.00 (14 x per year) according to - 26 in conjunction with - 49 of the Collective

Agreement for the Austrian Universities. The position covers 30 hours/week and is exempted

from teaching.

SCEUS was established in 2005 as an interdisciplinary Centre at the University of Salzburg

(PLUS), Austria. Research and teaching activities focus on the European Union and dynamics of

European integration, mainly from the perspectives of political science, law, and economics. The

applicants will be part of an international, interdisciplinary doctoral college established in 2008

by the Swiss Humer Foundation.

Owing to its excellent faculty/researcher ratio, SCEUS provides a superb research environment.

Doctoral students benefit from an international, multidisciplinary, and cooperative environment

and enjoy close contact with and regular supervision from PLUS professors and visiting scholars.

Furthermore, they spend one semester at a foreign university or research institution that offers

expertise and specialised training in their field.

- A (research) master’s degree in a discipline relevant to the PhD project (preferably economics,

law, or political science). The degree has to be completed by no later than 30 September
2023.
- Demonstrable fluency in English (working language of the doctoral college is English).
- Excellent academic record and strong analytical skills.
- Documented methodological skills pertinent to the discipline chosen by the applicant.
- An interest in and motivation for academic research.
- Interest in interdisciplinary research co-operation.

necessary on issues related to European integration).
- Transcripts (documenting all courses and exams the applicants have taken at their university)
