The Department of Biosciences and Medical Biology at the University of Salzburg invites
research on the structure function relationships of proprotein convertases, focusing on their
intermediate activation states. The research will involve a combination of biochemical, biophysical,
and structural techniques.
**Requirements**:
Applicants should possess a Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field,
with a strong background in protein biochemistry and/or structural biology. Practical experience in
cell culture, recombinant protein expression, affinity purification, and enzymatic characterization is
highly desirable. Fluency in spoken and written English, excellent organizational skills, and the
ability to work effectively in a team are essential.
Opportunities:
cutting-edge techniques used in structural biology. This includes working with large-scale human
cell cultures, recombinant protein production, biochemical and biophysical characterization of
proteins and protein-protein complexes, enzyme kinetics, crystallization of protein complexes,
structure determination, and analysis. The project will also involve the use of AI-based structure
analysis tools, such as AlphaFold, and structure-based protein engineering to develop novel
engage in interdisciplinary collaborations, particularly in the fields of biological chemistry and
virology.
Dates, Salary & Application:
The position is available from July 2023, but no later than October 2023. Salary will be in
accordance with the collective contract (30 hours per week, EUR 2,458.00 per month, 14 monthly
