The internship is located in the Visitors Service, United Nations Information Service UNIS, Vienna (Austria).

The Visitors Service seeks to enhance public understanding of the work and the role of the United Nations and its Vienna presence through guided tours and lectures. Welcoming some 50,000 visitors per year, the Visitors Service’s programmes include several types of specialized tours geared towards children and young people, and a tour of the Vienna International Centre’s fine art collection.

The internship is expected to begin in June 2023 for three months with an opportunity for extension up to a total duration of 6 months, depending on the needs of the department and the availability of the intern.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the direct supervision of Professional staff of the Unit.

**Responsibilities**:
The intern shall undertake the following duties which may include, but are not limited to:

- Support the Unit’s Lecture Coordinator and/or Tour Coordinator to provide outstanding client service to audiences, in particular academic and professional groups, visiting the Vienna International Centre (VIC) in-person or through virtual tours or lecture programmes;
- Assist with research, writing, layout and/or production of tour and visitor information materials, exhibits and/or audiovisual materials;
- Support the Unit in planning and conducting special programmes and events for children and youth, such as the 'Ferienspiel' activities on the Sustainable Development Goals, to be offered at the VIC for primary school children during the 2023 summer school holidays;
- Participate in activities, such as special events and/or social media campaigns, to promote guided tours of the UN in Vienna, for example on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and/or highlighting the VIC's fine art collection;
- Perform other tasks as necessary.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

- Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION);
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in English and the host country language German is required; knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
