The European Handball Federation (EHF) serves as the governing body for 50 national federations and two associated federations throughout Europe, recognized by the International Handball Federation (IHF). The EHF is committed to organizing and managing significant handball competitions, including the prestigious EHF EURO events for national teams and the EHF Champions League for club teams. Beyond event management, the EHF is focused on the advancement of the sport from grassroots initiatives to elite-level competitions.
Legal Department Overview | The Opportunity
The EHF is actively seeking to enhance its legal team by appointing a Corporate Counsel. This role presents a unique opportunity to contribute to a leading European sports organization and to influence the legal framework of the federation. The successful candidate will collaborate with various internal departments as well as external partners and organizations.
The EHF Legal Department operates in two primary domains:
- Corporate Affairs: encompassing contracts, data protection, intellectual property rights, bid conditions, regulatory compliance, educational resources, and meeting management.
- Institutional Matters: focusing on the EHF's legal framework, jurisdiction, and legislative compliance.
The individual in this role will primarily manage the corporate sector within the EHF Legal Management team.
Key ResponsibilitiesCore Duties
- Drafting and reviewing contracts, data processing agreements, partnership agreements, and media contracts.
- Developing and revising guidelines, regulations, bid conditions, and other statutory documents.
- Creating and implementing educational workshops, online resources, and printed materials.
- Utilizing digital tools for webinars and online training.
- Preparing reports and expert opinions.
- Conducting research and maintaining a legal archive.
- Visualizing statistics for both online and offline formats.
- Managing the ECA Arbitrator List and maintaining the ECA website.
- Overseeing data protection compliance and contracts across the organization.
- Providing legal support to all departments within the federation.
- Preparing presentations and illustrative materials.
- Assisting with official events and managing anti-doping cases.
- Organizing and managing the work environment effectively.
- Supporting legal jurisdiction and legislative matters.
- Collaborating with other sports organizations and finalizing legal publications.
Candidate Profile
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken, with a strong emphasis on writing proficiency.
- Proficiency in German is considered an asset.
- Master's degree in law, preferably with a specialization in sports law.
- Experience in drafting contracts.
- Strong understanding of data protection, intellectual property, and contract law.
- Proficient in MS Office, database management, and graphic design software.
- Dynamic and adaptable mindset.
- Willingness to learn about the sports ecosystem.
- Team-oriented approach.
- Passion for producing comprehensive legal documents.

Experience
- 1-3 years of experience in a similar role, ideally within an international sports context.
- Educational background demonstrating comprehensive legal knowledge.
- Familiarity with handball and/or experience in an international sports setting.

As part of the selection process, candidates will be given sample tasks related to data processing, legal drafting, and reasoning.
This is a full-time position with responsibilities requiring regular travel and adaptability to event schedules.
