Software Engineer for Innovative Solutions

REWE International AG is a leading international company in the food retail sector.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Developer to join our cross-functional team of 650+ IT professionals. Our team is responsible for developing innovative products and services for the REWE Group, with a strong focus on digitalization. We create tailored solutions for clients and partners, driving commerce forward from store solutions to supply chain, marketing, and CRM.

In this role, you will be part of an agile product team, contributing to the entire software development process. Your key responsibilities will include designing and building new products with your team, ensuring they are maintainable, extensible, and scalable in an international context. You will also extend and update existing code bases, adding new features and refactoring to current best practices. Additionally, you will create robust unit tests with your code and provide technical guidance and mentorship for team members. Participating in developer communities and driving forward best practice approaches and processes are also essential aspects of this role.

To succeed in this position, you will need to have a completed technical education (HTL, Uni, FH or similar). At least 3 years of proven experience in Java, Spring (Boot) and Hibernate are required. You should also have good knowledge of recent LTS versions of Java and prior hands-on experience with SQL and Database Design, ideally with Oracle or PostgreSQL. In addition, you should have prior experience with Docker, CI/CD (Gitlab) and Kubernetes in a GitOps setting, as well as acquaintance with at least one cloud provider, preferably Google Cloud. Good knowledge of designing and implementing REST APIs and knowledge of best practice approaches to unit testing Spring Boot applications, ideally using TDD, are also essential. Furthermore, you should be confident in performing team-related development tasks and have very good English skills. A team player who likes to discuss ideas and share knowledge is also highly valued. The ideal candidate should be self-organized and goal-oriented in their work approach.
