Data Engineer for Modern Trade

Job Description

We are looking for a skilled Data Engineer to join our team at REWE International AG. As the IT department of a leading retail group in Austria, we develop innovative solutions for all our corporate divisions.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing an optimal data architecture on the Google platform, providing a high-quality foundation for analysis and machine learning use cases. You will collaborate with analysts, product managers, and backend developers to understand and implement data requirements.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing scalable data pipelines using cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud.
  • Supporting the design and implementation of new extraction, transformation, and loading processes from various data sources.
  • Utilizing state-of-the-art methodologies (CI/CD) to deliver a future-proof, scalable form.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud.
  • Experience in creating scalable data pipelines.
  • Familiarity with custom ETL design and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of XML & JSON data formats.
  • Experience with relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL or similar).
  • Programming skills in R, Python, Java, etc.
  • Experience in creating data workflows via Kafka, Apache NiFi, Apache Airflow or similar tools.
  • Experience in communicating via REST APIs.
  • General experience in delivering a scaled data and analytics platform.
  • Knowledge of dbt (data build tool) for data transformation and modeling.
  • Independent and structured way of working.
  • High level of ownership and ability to learn new technologies in a fast-paced environment.
  • English knowledge in spoken and written.
