About the European Handball Federation (EHF)

The EHF is the governing body for handball across Europe, overseeing 50 national federations and two associated federations. Recognized by the International Handball Federation (IHF), the EHF is committed to organizing and managing major handball competitions, including the prestigious EHF EURO events and the EHF Champions League.

Position Overview | In-House Lawyer

The EHF is enhancing its legal team and is seeking an In-House Lawyer to contribute to the legal framework of the federation. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage with various internal departments and collaborate with external partners within the sports industry.

Legal Department Structure

The EHF Legal Department operates in two primary areas:

  • Corporate Affairs: Involves contracts, data protection, intellectual property rights, bid conditions, and the implementation of regulations.
  • Institutional Matters: Focuses on the EHF's legal system, jurisdiction, and legislative framework.

The selected candidate will primarily handle responsibilities within the corporate sector of the EHF Legal Management unit.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Duties

  • Drafting and reviewing contracts, data processing agreements, partnership agreements, and media contracts.
  • Developing and revising guidelines, regulations, bid conditions, and other statutory documents.
  • Creating and implementing educational materials, workshops, and online resources.
  • Conducting research and maintaining a jurisdiction archive.
  • Managing data protection compliance and contracts across the organization.
  • Providing legal support to all departments and assisting with anti-doping case management.
  • Preparing presentations and illustrative materials for various events.
  • Collaborating with other sports organizations on legal matters.

Candidate Profile

  • Fluent in English, with strong writing capabilities; proficiency in German is advantageous.
  • Master's degree in law, preferably with a focus on sports law.
  • Experience in contract drafting and a solid understanding of data protection and intellectual property law.
  • Proficient in MS Office and familiar with graphic design software.
  • Dynamic, self-motivated, and capable of working under pressure.
  • Ability to adapt to the fast-paced environment of sports events.
  • Willingness to travel as required by event schedules.
Experience Requirements

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience in a similar legal role, ideally within an international sports context.
  • Comprehensive legal education with knowledge of handball and international sports operations.

Application Process

As part of the selection process, candidates may be asked to complete sample tasks related to legal reasoning and data processing.

This is a full-time position based at the EHF Office, with a competitive salary package.
