Master Thesis on Material Resilience in Battery SystemsYour ResponsibilitiesThe degradation of materials due to thermal and erosive factors poses significant challenges in automotive contexts, especially regarding battery thermal safety. As the adoption of electric vehicles rises, it becomes increasingly important to comprehend material behavior during thermal runaway or propagation incidents. This master's thesis will focus on evaluating various materials, with an emphasis on their thermal resistance and erosion durability.
This study aims to assess and characterize materials such as Aerogel, Polyurethane, Silicone, and Glass Fiber mats, along with metallic and polymeric coatings under extreme conditions. Through rigorous testing and analysis of material responses, this research will yield valuable insights essential for informed decision-making in automotive design and engineering. Furthermore, a 1D or 3D model will be developed to predict material behavior during thermal and erosive challenges based solely on material properties. The data obtained from the testing series will be utilized to create a material map for simulation purposes and to validate the developed 1D or 3D simulation model.
- Pursuing a degree in engineering, technical, or natural sciences
- Familiarity with battery technology is advantageous
- Ability to work independently while also being a team player
- Proficient in English; knowledge of German is a plus
- Conducting a literature review of relevant scientific publications
- Developing a test matrix and standardizing test specifications
- Setting up experiments for selected materials
- Comparing material properties
- Cataloging results and performing detailed analysis of test outcomes
