We are seeking an exceptional scientist and visionary leader to serve as the Scientific Co-Director for Life Sciences at our institute, AITHYRA - Research Institute for Biomedical Artificial Intelligence.

About the Position

The Co-Director will play a crucial role in shaping the vision of the institute, establishing a competitive research program, and recruiting faculty and staff. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of cutting-edge research in biological fields, particularly molecular biology and biochemistry.

Responsibilities
  • Establish a competitive research program in life sciences
  • Recruit faculty and staff to support the research program
  • Collaborate with the Director to shape the vision of the institute
  • Develop and implement AI-first approaches to transform the life sciences
Requirements
  • PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, structural biology, genetics, or a related field
  • Experience as PI of a lab with a track record of cutting-edge research in biological fields
  • Good knowledge and understanding of modern machine learning and a track record of using and developing new ML methods for biological applications
  • Excellent publication record and track record of attracting competitive grants
  • Leadership and team management skills
What We Offer

The successful candidate will be recruited with tenure as a scientific group leader, while the function of Co-Director will be for 10 years, renewable after an evaluation. The institute will provide a substantial computational and experimental infrastructure, state-of-the-art AI-driven robotic labs, and access to the entire research infrastructure of the Vienna Bio Center campus.

AITHYRA will also establish collaborations with leading international institutions and provide a generous annual research budget, internationally competitive salary, and core resources for stem cell research, transgenic animal models, advanced microscopy, and more.
