RECENT OR POTENTIAL GRADS: Correctional Officer (Casual Relief) Location: Dartmouth, Pictou, Yarmouth and Sydney, NS Competition Number: 40950Type of Employment: ReliefDepartment: JusticeUnion Status: Exclusion – Non Union – NSPGAbout UsThe Correctional Services division of the Department of Justice is responsible for the administration and operation of community and custody-based programs and services for adults and young persons. Within the Correctional Services core business area there are two programs: community corrections & correctional facilities.As a Correctional Officer, you are responsible for the safe custody, control and supervision of persons in custody in an adult correctional facility on a rotating shift basis. Duties include regular interaction with persons in custody, encouraging pro-social behaviour, conducting counts and searches, and ensuring security and safety.Primary AccountabilitiesResponsibilities include:Facility SecurityProvides dynamic supervision of persons in custody and safe secure custody, control, and supervision.Persons in Custody SupervisionParticipate in case management; approve and arrange visits and phone calls; respond to complaints; supervise work activities.Physical Plant MaintenanceSupervise cleaning and submit maintenance work orders as required.ProgramsAdvise on available programs and support program work in living units.Administration & CommunicationRecord and communicate information through reports, forms, logbooks, and participate in meetings.Qualifications and ExperienceYou possess a High School diploma and 2 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.
