Head of Operations & Logistics - Sydney Markets Samson's Fruit & Vegetable Supply , a trusted leader in fresh produce wholesale in Sydney, is seeking an experienced Head of Operations & Logistics to join their Sydney Markets (Homebush West) facility.
This role offers an immediate start (considering notice periods as needed).

Position Overview: This varied role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of operational management, logistics, and team leadership.

The position is to manage two trading floors (vegetables & fruit) and two warehouses, all on site and within walking distance.
We have one warehouse manager and one operational team leader.

Operationally, we have a team of 32 people, which the successful applicant will be in charge of.

Working Hours: Start times are 12.30am / 1am on a Monday and Friday, and 1.30am / 2am every other day, finishing around 10 / 10.30am, depending on the day.
Weekend work will also be required.

Your main responsibilities and duties will include: Team management and leadership: Supervise and manage all operational staff, including employment, performance appraisals, and termination in consultation with the MD and HR.
Approve timesheets, manage rosters, and handle leave requests.
Train, coach, and mentor team members for optimal performance.
Collaborate with HR to recruit and replace employees as needed.
Stock Inwards & Inventory Management: Manage local and interstate orders and oversee the timely unloading and storage of all incoming stock.
Ensure stock accuracy and efficient unloading processes, aiming for zero loss.
Coordinate with extra staff as needed for high-volume periods.
Logistics & Dispatch: Oversee order picking, packing, and delivery, maintaining daily targets.
Organize delivery schedules and ensure paperwork accuracy for smooth operations.
Prioritize the safe and efficient movement of stock.
Warehouse Operations: Implement and improve standard operating procedures.
Oversee equipment maintenance and stock organization for efficient dispatch.
Ensure stock is labeled and consumables are stocked adequately.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized warehouse.
Foster positive workplace relations and manage operational expenses within budget.
Partner with the Head of Finance on budget setting.
Support the MD with special projects and ad hoc tasks as needed.
WH&S Compliance: Enforce workplace health and safety policies to maintain a secure working environment.
Your experience, skill set and qualifications will include: Strong leadership, supervisory, and negotiation skills, with a hands-on approach.
Extensive knowledge in logistics, warehousing, and distribution.
Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Tertiary qualifications in logistics, business, or supply chain preferred.
Valid Forklift and Truck Licenses required.
Proficiency in MS Office (Intermediate) and experience with warehouse management software.
Demonstrated experience in managing blue-collar teams and fostering a strong team ethic.
Salary Range: Attractive salary, dependent on experience level.
