The Department of Veterans' Affairs (the department) is both a policy and service delivery agency that exists to meet the nation's commitment to care for veterans, the Defence service community and their families.
We do this through programs of care, compensation, commemoration, income support, and Defence support services.
We have strong relationships with Australian ex-service organisations, the Department of Defence, the international veteran community, and international veterans' administrations.
People Services Branch (PSB) is committed to providing a professional Human Resources (HR) service to the department.
Our people are talented, diverse, HR experts, and dedicated to providing the department with a professional, engaged and flexible workforce to meet ongoing operational requirements.
The primary objective of the Director – Workplace Relations and Human Resources Policy is to provide specialist workplace relations and HR advice, and lead the section responsible for managing and embedding the DVA Enterprise Agreement (EA) and HR policy.
The key duties of the position include: Be a visible leader and contribute to the broader branch change.
Oversee the evolving services offered to PSB customers and the way these services can be accessed.
Provide strategic direction to the section, including the development of business plans, strategies, budgets and priorities as well as to monitor workflow and performance.
Develop and manage key strategic relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including representing the department internally and externally in high level workplace relations discussions and negotiations.
Contribute to the department's strategic reform and operational business transformation to ensure quick and appropriate responses to a variety of competing priorities within assigned resources.
Develop, coach and mentor employees, manage performance and conflict, and identify and act on training needs.
Provide oversight and management of high level, complex projects and be responsible for the achievement of specified project outcomes and policy development in relation to a range of HR related topics.
Proactively address potential enterprise-level workplace relations and HR policy issues and challenges.
Provide high level, confidential strategic policy and staff advice to the Secretary and senior management in relation to a full range of HR management issues.

Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
All applicants external to DVA offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a pre-engagement screening check, even if they have a security clearance.
The screening check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements.
The successful candidate will be required obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance.

Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled for an initial specified term of up to 23 months.
A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created which may be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies should they become available over the next 18 months.
Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
