Head of Applications A leading organization in the financial services industry is seeking a Head of Applications to take ownership of its diverse application portfolio, lead modernization initiatives, and drive strategic integration efforts.
This senior leadership role offers an opportunity to shape the future of the organization's technology landscape while contributing to its innovative and customer-focused operations.
The ideal candidate will bring a combination of technical expertise, strategic vision, and strong leadership skills to the role.
Essential ExperienceProven success in a senior role, such as Head of Applications, within a regulated industry.Expertise in cloud technologies, modern architecture, integration strategies, and API-first development.Experience with custom and SaaS-based systems, particularly in evaluating and modernizing legacy platforms.Strong track record of balancing strategic oversight with hands-on problem-solving when necessary.Role OverviewReporting to the CIO, the Head of Applications will lead a team responsible for evaluating, integrating, and optimizing the organization's application portfolio.
This role combines strategic vision, technical expertise, and leadership to ensure the application landscape aligns with business objectives.
Key ResponsibilitiesApplication Strategy:Evaluate, consolidate, and modernize an 80+ application portfolio for scalability and efficiency.Balance proprietary development with vendor-based solutions to align with strategic goals.Modernization & Integration:Implement integration strategies leveraging APIs and microservices.Oversee both in-house development and third-party vendor systems.Team Leadership:Lead and stabilize a team of 3–5 direct reports, including a Solution Architect and Enterprise Solutions Manager, with support from external development teams.Foster alignment with agile best practices and ensure delivery excellence.Governance & Compliance:Improve cybersecurity, risk management, and governance practices.Address gaps in ISO certification readiness and drive application maturity.Key Leadership QualitiesCalm, approachable, and collaborative leadership style.Exceptional communication skills to align diverse stakeholders.Ability to navigate organizational change and secure buy-in for new strategies.The organization values adaptability, collaboration, and results over hierarchy.
