Here at CBCity The City of Canterbury Bankstown is one of the largest Council's in NSW with the most culturally, socially and economically diverse communities in Sydney.
We deliver 29 key services such as childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres to over 370,000 residents.
The role The Executive Planner – Urban Renewal role is a strategic planning position responsible for preparing and contributing to place-based master plans.
This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of Canterbury Bankstown's centres and work on large and interesting projects.
You will have an opportunity to lead a master plan that guides good planning outcomes in a centre, including developing innovative ideas and proposing practical solutions to complex planning issues.
This involves collaborating across Council and with external stakeholders including NSW Government agencies, engaging a diverse and multicultural community to understand community aspirations, managing consultants and meeting project deadlines.
As a specialist position, the role requires a high level of technical proficiency in strategic planning and the ability to draw on a wide range of experiences when facing new challenges.
Duties will include but not be limited to: Work on a range of placed-based master planning projects for centres across Canterbury Bankstown, underpinned by Council's strategic planning framework.
Apply a wide range of planning experiences and high-level technical proficiency to solve complex planning challenges.
Prepare consultant's briefs and work with consultants of various disciplines to inform master planning and decision-making.
Recommend new planning controls for centres as guided by Council's Local Strategic Planning Statement.
Develop, implement and review Council's planning policies, land use strategies, and planning instruments as required.
Improve Council's processes and systems as they relate to urban planning and development matters.

You will have Tertiary qualifications in town planning or related discipline.
Experience working on significant strategic planning projects, including project managing consultants and carrying out community engagement activities.
Strong working knowledge of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and relevant planning legislation including the plan-making process, local environmental plans, and development control plans.
High-level critical thinking and problem-solving abilities with the capacity to solve complex urban development issues in a timely manner.
Strong interpersonal communication, collaboration and stakeholder management skills including negotiation, mediation, and facilitation skills.
Understanding of the roles and responsibilities of State and local government authorities and the private sector in planning matters.
