Master Thesis "Modeling, Simulation and Demonstration of a peer-to-peer Energy Market in Local Energy Communities"

- The electrical energy system is currently being challenged by the high penetration of renewable resources and electric vehicles and an increasing trend towards digitalization. Therefore, throughout our H2020 LocalRES project, our goal is to design, implement and deploy a range of tools that enables a Local Renewable Energy Community to function and thrive.
- Throughout this master thesis, under the guidance of our team and in collaboration with our partners, you will be working on modeling, simulating and demonstrating a P2P energy market that will be implemented in a local demonstration site.
- At the AIT Center for Energy, we use innovative methods and technologies, such as real-time simulations, co-simulations, or hardware in the loop experiments, to accurately analyze and investigate these systems.
- You will model an energy accounting system based on the Renewable Energy Expansion Act (Erneuerbaren-Ausbau-Gesetz) 2021.
- You will learn how to design, validate and demonstrate a grid-aware peer-to-peer energy market that considers gid power limits and tolerances.
- You will visualize bids from the peer-to-peer local energy market in a real, local energy community in Austria.
- You will contribute to a peer-reviewed research publication.
- You have the opportunity to work on an international research project and to deepen your know-how in energy markets and renewable energy.
- You will train scientific skills and have the opportunity not only to discuss experiences with our international group of scientific experts, but also to extend your professional network.

Your qualifications as an
**Ingenious Partner**:

- Ongoing master's studies in embedded systems, computer science, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, or other relevant field
- Good knowledge of Smart Grids, Energy and balancing market, as well as an understanding of peer-to-peer and distributed systems
- Good programming skills in C/C++, Python or Julia
- Experience with containerization (Docker, Podman, LXD) and Software protocols (REST, MQTT ) is an advantage.
- Team player with a curious and determined attitude
- Good verbal and writing skills in English and/or German

**What to expect**:

- **Duration of the master’s thesis**: 6 months
- **Start date**: as soon as possible
- EUR 828;
- gross per month for 20 hours/week based on the collective agreement. There will be additional company benefits. You will be part of our international Young AIT network. As a research institution, we are familiar with the supervision and execution of master theses, and we are looking forward to supporting you accordingly.
