**About the Master thesis project**

Cells degrade and recycle damaged intracellular organelles, dangerous intracellular pathogens, and toxic protein aggregates by autophagy. All of these processes are united by the orchestrated decoration of the cargo with a ubiquitin coat. TBK1 (TANK-binding kinase 1) controls the process of autophagosome formation in mitophagy, xenophagy and aggrephagy by signaling the presence of the ubiquitinated cargo and controlling the downstream assembly of the autophagic machinery. The mechanisms by which TBK1 is activated downstream, however, remain poorly understood.- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, chemistry or molecular biology-
