Head of Business Development – Low-Risk Market Expansion

Reports to:
Chief Executive Officer

Role Purpose

Our client is looking for a Head of Business Development to drive the strategic expansion of their online payments business into low-risk industry segments. The company has a strong foundation serving high-risk industries, and with new capabilities in place, they are ready to scale into new verticals. This role will lead that shift.

Key Responsibilities

Market Expansion Strategy

  • Define and execute the go-to-market strategy for entering and scaling in low-risk industries.
  • Conduct market research to identify high-potential verticals and relevant target merchants.

Business Development & Sales

  • Identify, engage, and secure partnerships with merchants, partners, and platforms within low-risk sectors.
  • Build and maintain a qualified pipeline of prospects.
  • Prepare tailored pitches and proposals aligned with the needs of low-risk merchants.

Product Positioning & Adaptation

  • Collaborate with product and tech teams to ensure features, UX, and workflows meet the expectations of low-risk merchants.
  • Support marketing in positioning the payment offering effectively within these new segments.

Internal Collaboration

  • Work closely with product, supply chain, underwriting, and operational teams to adapt processes for low-risk market requirements.
  • Coordinate with operations and customer success to ensure smooth onboarding and ongoing support.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track KPIs such as merchant acquisition, pipeline progress, and revenue growth in low-risk verticals.
  • Provide regular updates, insights, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.

Industry Engagement

  • Represent our client at relevant conferences, trade shows, and events focused on low-risk industries.
  • Stay updated on competitive dynamics and regulatory developments impacting payment services in these sectors.
