Corporate - Contract Law Attorney / Corporate - Technology Transactions Attorney / Real Estate - Leasing Attorney / Real Estate- Commercial Transactions Attorney in Bunbury, Western Australia Job Title: Principal Legal Officer, Commercial Law Job Responsibilities: The Principal Legal Officer (PLO) in Commercial Law is tasked with a diverse range of responsibilities, focusing primarily on property law, leasing, major procurements, intellectual property, probity, funding, and grant arrangements. As subject matter experts, PLOs supervise and provide second counsel to lawyers in their team, and personally handle technical or sensitive matters. They are responsible for ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and for driving issues forward through effective stakeholder engagement, clear communication, and subject matter expertise. PLOs adopt a pragmatic approach to problem‑solving and are committed to delivering exceptional customer service. PLOs also lead a team, focusing on staff development, setting goals, and driving performance through effective performance management. They delegate work appropriately, measure performance, and work collaboratively with other PLOs in managing workflow, reporting, and contributing to team and Branch meetings. Additionally, PLOs work closely with the Senior Executive Service (SES) to ensure appropriate briefing and escalation, providing support to their teams. Education and Experience Information: Essential qualifications for the position include a degree in law from an Australian university or a comparable overseas degree recognized in Australia for admission to practice. Candidates must have a Practising Certificate or be eligible to attain one, along with at least three years' post‑qualification experience. The ideal candidate should possess specialized knowledge and experience in commercial law advisory work, preferably with experience in government procurement and contracting, grants, and property. High-quality management and leadership skills are required to effectively manage and develop senior legal officers and legal officers. Candidates should have strong technical legal advice writing, second counselling, and research skills, along with sophisticated relationship management, communication, and negotiation skills to develop productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The ability to work under pressure and be agile, flexible, and responsive to managing competing priorities and tight timeframes is also essential. Salary Information: The classification for the Principal Legal Officer position offers a salary range of $157, to $177,, plus % superannuation (part-time pro‑rata). Additional Information: Applicants must be Australian Citizens and will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance. Additional clearances such as the Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) and Onboarding Check may also be required, depending on the specific circumstances.
