Corporate - M&A Attorney / Corporate - Compliance Attorney / Antitrust and Competition - Litigation and Investigations Attorney / Antitrust and Competition - Mergers and Acquisitions (Corporate) Attorney / Government and Government Relations Attorney / Go Manage the relevant legal team, ensuring sustainable workloads and strategic use of legal resources. Supervise Lawyers, Senior Lawyers, or Principal Lawyers, providing coaching, mentoring, and support to develop lawyers and manage team performance. Provide strategic legal advice on significant matters, particularly major workstreams or complex investigations and litigation with sector-wide implications and/or reputational risk for the organization. Oversee the team’s legal outputs to ensure advice is consistent and balances risk appropriately, identifying sensitivities and the broader context. Build and maintain positive engagement with stakeholders, including line areas, corporate teams, and external stakeholders. Enhance the capability of the Legal Group by contributing to the broader legal knowledge and knowledge management processes of the Legal Group and the organization. Drive cross-branch collaboration, including improved ways of working and resource management across the Legal Group. Education and Experience Information: Significant legal experience at a senior practitioner level (approximately 10+ years or equivalent) relevant to one or more areas of the organization's functions and responsibilities, including litigation, investigations and enforcement, consumer law, competition law, mergers and exemptions, infrastructure regulation, administrative law, or corporate law. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence, persuade, and negotiate. Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to work closely with line area or corporate teams to achieve outcomes for the organization. Ability to quickly distil and explain key legal issues in challenging and complex scenarios. Ability to exercise excellent judgment under pressure and to reconcile conflicting views and manage competing priorities. Demonstrated success in leading a team. High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory is essential (a current Australian practicing certificate is required). The successful candidate will be appointed as an EL2 and may attract an additional allowance via an Individual Flexibility Arrangement (IFA) depending on the skills and experience of the candidate. The role is part of the Specialist Advice and Services Division and involves working in one of the organization's four legal units: Competition and Consumer Law Unit, Corporate Law Unit, Mergers and Exemptions Law Unit, and Regulatory Law Unit.
