Corporate - Contract Law Attorney / Corporate - Compliance Attorney / Government Contracts Attorney / Government / Public Law Attorney in Melbourne, Victoria Job Title: Principal Legal Officer, Commercial Law Job Responsibilities: The Principal Legal Officer (PLO) in the Commercial Law Section is responsible for providing expert legal advice and guidance on a range of commercial law matters. Key responsibilities include: Acting as a subject matter expert in commercial law, with an emphasis on government procurement, contracting, grants, and property law. Supervising and providing second counselling to senior legal officers and legal officers within the team, ensuring tasks are finalized effectively. Leading a team by developing staff, setting goals, driving performance, and appropriately delegating work while measuring performance. Engaging with stakeholders effectively, demonstrating strong relationship management, communication, and negotiation skills. Managing workflow, reporting, and contributing to team and branch meetings in collaboration with other PLOs in the Commercial Law team. Working closely with Senior Executive Service (SES) to ensure appropriate briefing, escalation, and support for the team. Providing pragmatic and concise legal advice to manage legal risk on behalf of the department. Handling complex and sensitive legal matters with a problem-solving approach. Education and Experience Information: Essential qualifications and experience for the position include: A degree in law from an Australian university, or a comparable overseas degree recognized in Australia for admission to practice. Possession of a Practising Certificate or eligibility to attain one. At least three years of post-qualification legal experience. Specialized knowledge and experience in commercial law advisory work, preferably including experience in government procurement and contracting, grants, and property. Salary Information: The position of Principal Legal Officer offers a salary ranging from $157, to $177,, plus a superannuation contribution of %. The employment type is ongoing (permanent), full-time, with flexible working arrangements negotiable in accordance with the enterprise agreement and operational requirements. Applicants must be Australian citizens and will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance.
