This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2026. The School of Special Educational Needs: Behaviour and Engagement (SSEN:BE) is seeking a dynamic and motivated School Psychologist to join the team at the Pilbara Engagement Centre, commencing Term 1, 2026. The Pilbara Engagement Centre is located in Port Hedland and provides services and supports to schools across the Pilbara region. The successful applicant residing in location in Port Hedland is eligible to receive a District Allowance in 2026 of $9,299 per year, and an Attraction and Retention Allowance of $4,887. About SSEN:BE SSEN:BE is part of the network of specialist schools operating under the Statewide Services pillar of Service Delivery. SSEN:BE provides educational support and services with schools for students who present with extreme, complex and challenging behaviours across a K‑12 context. A continuum of support is delivered through Engagement Centres and the Midland Learning Academy. The services of Engagement Centres and the Academy are coordinated through SSEN:BE which provides the administrative structure that oversees and manages these services as a Statewide model of supports for schools, teachers and students. The services complement other teams working in networks, regions and schools, supporting a greater number of students across the state. Support is available across the public school system. Engagement Centres coordinate the K‑12 provision of the following services: Professional learning to improve student engagement and behaviour Consultative support for schools needing additional assistance with planning for those students with very complex needs Direct and indirect support for individual students exhibiting the most extreme, challenging and complex needs The Role Develop, implement and evaluate individual interventions for students from Kindergarten to Year 12, and assist schools to maintain safe and supportive learning environments. Provide psychological assessment and consultancy services to school and Engagement Centre staff and establish and maintain effective working relationships to improve student behaviour and engagement. Collaborate with other school psychologists, lead school psychologists and other specialist teams within and external to the Department to assist with the integration and coordination of relevant student support services. Travel between sites in the region, which may include overnight stays and air travel in light aircraft. Work independently as a psychologist in a specialist nature. Qualifications Well developed interpersonal and communication skills, with ideally experience in the area of student behaviour and engagement. General registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (provisional or general). Eligibility Hold or be eligible for provisional or general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment. Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start. Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start. Demonstrated knowledge of the implementation and evaluation of a variety of psychological approaches appropriate for individual, group and system-level intervention. Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills. Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Department personnel and inter‑agency partners across a variety of contexts. Demonstrated ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.
