APS6 Senior Policy Officer - Policy & Research This role offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful reform, support senior executives, and shape policies that have real impact. About the Role As a Senior Policy Officer, you will support the development, review and implementation of policies relating to health, wellbeing and support services. Working under the guidance of an EL1 Assistant Director, you will play a central role in preparing high-quality advice, briefs and documentation for senior stakeholders. You will work closely with internal teams, government partners and community organisations to gather insights, analyse information and support the progression of key policy priorities, including responsibilities linked to major national initiatives. Key Responsibilities Develop, review and implement policy initiatives aligned with government priorities. Draft clear, concise and high-quality briefing materials, reports, correspondence and discussion papers for senior executives and ministers. Conduct research and analyse data to support evidence-based policy advice. Review and update internal policy documents and guidance material. Support media monitoring, administrative tasks and coordination requests within the section. Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Assist with preparations for governance committees and stakeholder meetings. Contribute to work connected to national inquiries and reform recommendations. About You You will thrive in this role if you bring: Experience in policy development, program policy, or similar analytical work within government or large organisations. Strong understanding of government processes, legislation and policy cycles. Excellent writing skills with the ability to translate technical information into clear, accurate advice. Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills. Confidence working with stakeholders and building collaborative relationships. Initiative, sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. A team-focused mindset with the ability to work independently when required. Requirements Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance (sponsored upon engagement). Australian citizenship (as per APS requirements). Full-time availability (37.5 hours per week).
