Building and Grounds Maintenance Manager Brunswick Secondary College is a co‑educational Year 7‑12 college that serves students from the Brunswick area and beyond. With modernised facilities completed in 2018, the college supports a growing enrolment of approximately 1,050 students, including an International Student Program. Selection Criteria Relevant experience and/or qualifications to fulfil the expected duties of the Buildings & Grounds Maintenance Manager position. Ability to prioritise and work systematically with minimal supervision and oversee other staff and contractors. Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety policies and procedures and ability to manage risk. Effective communication and ability to engage others within the school community to maintain a clean, safe and presentable environment. Dedication to undertake professional development to enhance skills within the role. Role The Buildings & Grounds Maintenance Manager communicates effectively, develops working relationships with staff, students and contractors, and supports the College leadership with planning and implementation of building works, grounds projects, general maintenance and minor building services. The role requires flexibility, reliability, and working with minimal direction. Responsibilities Typical duties include: General repair work with wood, steel, plaster, concrete or brick. Painting and colour maintenance. Cleaning and temporary securing of broken windows and doors. Moving furniture and setting up rooms for exams, meetings and assemblies. Assisting teaching staff with set‑up for school functions such as barbecues and sports days. Removing graffiti. Attending to faulty locks. Retrieving items from rooftops and maintaining gutters and drains. Minor plumbing works. Basic landscaping and gardening including mowing, trimming, weeding, pruning, planting. Schedule and document maintenance activities for electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire services, pest control, painting, concreting, glazing, carpentry, facilities audits, waste management and inspections. Prepare quotes and timelines for work requiring qualified contractors. Manage, coordinate and instruct service contractors to ensure high‑standard work with minimal disruption to school activities. Assist Technology staff with material ordering and equipment usage. Ensure contractors provide insurance documentation and working with children checks. Induct contractors to ensure compliance with OHS regulations. Identify and report major furniture, fixture and equipment renewal needs and assist in contract and purchasing management. Implement OH&S and risk management procedures, and maintain relevant documentation such as Safe Work Practice, risk assessment forms, NSDS sheets. Assist with planning and staging of College events such as Information Evenings, Awards Ceremonies and Student‑Led Conferences. Respond to emergency situations appropriately and undertake duties outside normal hours or on weekends as required. Communicate with cleaners, facility hirers and other department bodies regarding maintenance issues. Monitor and report on security issues such as open windows and unlocked doors. Assist in supervising students in selected programs related to the position. Report directly to the Business Manager for daily duty performance. Undertake additional duties as requested by the Business Manager or Principal. Comply with College policies and procedures and maintain a safe, clean, presentable working environment.
