This fellowship offers Advanced Emergency Medicine trainees the opportunity to subspecialise in Geriatric Emergency Medicine (GEM). The role combines half‑time dedicated clinical support to provide self‑directed learning with half‑time senior registrar duties in a tertiary mixed Emergency Department. The Role of the Senior Registrar – Geriatric Emergency Medicine (GEM) Fellowship The role provides a supportive learning environment with flexible placements across multiple specialties that manage older patients. Training may include clinics, ward rounds, home visits, and collaboration with Geriatrics, Palliative Care, Hospital in the Home (HiTH), Geriatric Evaluation and Management at Home, Trauma, Older Persons Mental Health, Pharmacy, Emergency Medicine Assessment and Management Team, General Practice in Residential Aged Care, and the Community Rapid Response Allied Health Team. Fellows will also have protected time to undertake a quality improvement or research project, mentored by the Tasmanian Emergency Research (TASER) group. About the Royal Hobart Hospital The Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s tertiary referral and principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania School of Medicine. It provides general and specialty medical and surgical services, paediatrics, obstetrics, psychiatry, and is the state’s tertiary trauma centre. The Emergency Department serves over 75,000 patients annually with a high acuity workload. The ED operates 24/7 and includes a co‑located Emergency Medical Unit (EMU) with 28 short‑stay beds. Staff engage in various projects and research opportunities. Salary $134,930 – $189,005 per annum (pro rata) base salary, plus superannuation.
