Do you have experience and a good understanding about the day to day requirements of legal practice, particularly in criminal law or commercial law? Is the reputation of the legal profession important to you? In the role of Lawyer (Professional Conduct) with the Legal Services Commission you will be part of a team responsible for assessing, investigating, and reviewing complaints and recommending what action the Commissioner should take on those complaints, as well as assisting with preparations for prosecution or other enforcement action. The majority of complaints involve conduct occurring in private practice and as such, experience in practising law in the private sector will better provide the successful candidate with the skills and understanding of practice that is required to deal effectively with complaints and investigations. As a Lawyer with the Commission's Professional Conduct team, you will assist in the performance of the Commission's functions under the Legal Profession Act 2007. Responsibilities communicate effectively with and manage the expectations and demands of a wide range of internal and external clients ranging from senior members of the legal profession, through to clients and other members of the public who may have a limited understanding of the legal system and processes assess and advise in relation to complaints about the conduct within the Commission's jurisdiction within performance criteria as set by the Commissioner assess, investigate and review complaints about the conduct of lawyers, law practice employees and unlawful operators, and recommend what action, if any, the Commissioner should take on those complaints identify apparent misconduct that is not subject to complaint and recommend that the Commissioner initiate investigation matters as appropriate discharge other duties as directed from time to time, including: assisting other teams of the Commission, including the Litigation team in relation to preparation of matters, when operationally required recommending improvements to the Commission's policies, procedures, work practices and management systems to enable the Commission to maintain high standards of service and to continually improve contributing to the Commission's project, research, policy and educational activities You Will abide by the Australian Solicitor Conduct Rules (as amended from time to time) and display high standards of professional ethical conduct at all times, in addition to any other professional obligations be eligible for appointment as an investigator under the Legal Profession Act 2007 (any such appointment is at the Commissioner's discretion) Qualifications proven ability to deliver high quality performance outcomes and customer service, and manage a range of projects with conflicting timeframes high level communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills with proven ability to develop collaborative relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders proven ability to contribute to a collaborative and positive team culture, and continual improvement commitment to professional excellence through active ongoing development of your professional, legal, leadership and management skills unquestionable ethics and integrity.
