Base salary ranges from $101,122 to $160,983, plus leave loading and employer's contribution to superannuation. Base salary rates above the minimum are available depending on experience. Note there is no automatic progression to $160,983 – SCAC. Access to SCAC is available once a school counsellor has progressed through all salary steps and upon successful application for Advanced Certification level against the NSW School Counselling Service PPF. They provide counselling and psychological assessment of students to complement and enhance the work of teachers, strengthening student learning and wellbeing outcomes. They help families understand and manage their children’s learning and mental health needs. This role offers unique challenges and opportunities for professional development and impact on the lives of children and young people. Based at Koonawarra Public School, the successful candidate will work with both primary and high‑school aged students, engaging with diverse students and school communities. School counsellors receive regular individual professional supervision and participate in group and peer supervision within the district team. Collaboration with school staff, outside agencies, and multidisciplinary teams will be integral. School counsellors are provided with ongoing professional development opportunities and NSW Department of Education supports completion or maintenance of registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. Selection Criteria Experience in counselling using evidence‑based interventions with a demonstrated understanding of the mental health needs of children and young people. Experience in the psychological assessment of children and young people, including case formulation and report writing. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with key stakeholders to improve learning and wellbeing outcomes for children and young people including students from diverse backgrounds and needs. Conditions Be a registered or provisionally registered psychologist, or eligible for registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. Ability and willingness to travel between worksites. This position commences on 27 January 2026 This is a permanent part‑time position of 0.6 FTE.
