Job Description Reporting to the Payroll Team Leader, the Payroll Officer provides quality, timely and accurate payroll services for Harmony Australasia. You will play a pivotal role in processing payroll, resolving payroll‑related queries, and providing advice to our workforce. Roster: Working out of our Milton Office in Brisbane on a 5/2 roster Monday to Friday. Responsibilities Perform payroll maintenance and ensure data is accurate Occasionally assist other finance staff with duties outside the above duties Ensure employee files are up to date Reconcile payroll‑related balance sheet accounts Perform other duties as required by the Assistant Accountant Prepare daily bank reconciliations for review by the Assistant Accountant Prepare payroll journals (to be approved by Assistant Accountant) Bank cheques and cash deposits on a weekly basis Ensure the production of accurate and timely payroll information for Harmony companies and corporate customers in compliance with instructions and procedures for assigned tasks Contribute to good communication within the Finance Department and other Departments by developing and maintaining a team environment conducive to two‑way communication Improve and develop systems through ongoing review – ensure effective management of process, procedure, or system improvements or upgrades, and provide documentation of these improvements or upgrades Create tax invoices – AR invoices mainly for Gold and Silver sales Assist with Accounts Payable when required Prepare and pay monthly PAYG tax as required by legislation Prepare superannuation payments for review by Assistant Accountant On a monthly basis receive timesheets and expense claims for inclusion in payroll Ensure all payroll‑related supporting documentation is approved by the Business Unit Managers prior to processing Prepare monthly corporate credit card reconciliation for review and approval by Business Unit Managers / Finance Manager Run monthly superannuation reports, reconcile, and prepare monthly payments Prepare payment of PAYG and payroll tax payments File all relevant employee documentation in employee personnel files Enter details of new appointments and changes to masterfile data as requested by the Assistant Accountant with the required documentation Prepare cash calls for payroll payments and review by Assistant Accountant Prepare EFT and manual payments to employees Distribute payslips within 24 hours of the pay run Assist internal and external auditors when required Prepare payroll for all Harmony employees as and when due Qualifications Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel General accounting / clerical experience of at least 2 years Foundations of payroll practice Payroll administration experience in Australia About You A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar position in Australian payroll Competency using computerised accounting systems, preferably Pronto Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Word and Excel is essential Papua New Guinea payroll experience is advantageous Foundations of payroll practice (desirable) The ability to work both independently and as part of a team Benefits Flexible working practices Eligibility to participate in the company bonus scheme The opportunity to work for an international mining company with a diverse workforce Easy access to our office located a short walk from Milton train station About the Team Harmony is the largest gold producer by volume in South Africa and is a significant operator of gold tailings retreatment facilities. In Australia, Harmony owns the high‑grade CSA copper mine in Cobar, NSW and is constructing the Eva Copper Mine in Cloncurry, QLD with first production targeted for the second half of the 2028 calendar year. These assets are supported by the Harmony Australasia regional corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.
