Intermediate Solicitor, Criminal Law Practice Aboriginal Legal Service NSW/ACT Moree, NSW A$125,719 p/a + super + remote allowance On-site Posted 2 days ago Job: | Full-Time| Permanent | Moree, NSW | $125,719 (Fixed Pay) The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities. Your Impact As a vital member of the Criminal Law Practice, you’ll deliver culturally grounded legal advocacy that strengthens outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients. You’ll support meaningful change through early intervention, outreach, community education and referrals. Each day, you will: Oversee daily office operations, including supervision, rostering, diary management and allocation of criminal matters. Supervise, mentor and support junior solicitors, including their advocacy development, training, and CPD. Manage and appear in complex LC/CC matters, support District Court matters, and ensure high-quality, culturally appropriate client representation. Liaise with courts and justice agencies, maintain EAGP processes, and build strong inter‑agency and intra‑office relationships. Handle ethical issues, complaints, referrals, and briefing processes in line with ALS policies and professional obligations. Stay current with legal developments, contribute to law reform work, and uphold high standards of probity, compliance, and professional practice. Your Story & Strengths You are a dedicated and experienced legal professional with a strong understanding of the cultural, social, and historical context shaping the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You combine expert criminal law knowledge with a commitment to culturally appropriate advocacy, mentoring, and community-focused justice. Key strengths include: Strong understanding of Aboriginal cultural and social needs, with respectful and culturally safe practice. Legal qualifications, NSW Practising Certificate, and at least 2 years’ criminal law experience. Solid criminal law knowledge with proven advocacy skills across District Court, EAGP, and complex LC/CC matters. Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor and support a multidisciplinary legal team. Excellent communication, time management, and capacity to work independently while managing a diverse workload. Willingness to travel as needed and commitment to WHS, ethical practice and diversity in the workplace.
