About the Role Reporting to the General Manager – Commercial and Planning, the Commercial Operations Manager oversees the end-to-end operation of School, Charter, Rail, and V/Line Coach services throughout the Melbourne Metropolitan and Yarram/Leongatha areas. You’ll lead a diverse operational team – including Disability Services, Rail Replacement, Service Delivery, and our Commercial driver workforce – ensuring the seamless, safe, and efficient operation of all commercial services. This is a hands‑on senior leadership role that combines strategic oversight with day‑to‑day operational management to drive excellence across people, performance, safety, and customer experience. Key Responsibilities Lead the safe and efficient operations from our Reservoir depot. Deliver on budgeted profitability through effective management of costs, driver and fleet utilisation, and job efficiency. Lead, coach, and develop the Commercial Service Delivery team to achieve operational, financial, and safety goals. Oversee recruitment, workforce planning, and performance management to maintain an engaged, capable workforce. Develop and Monitor a KPI structure, such as cost per kilometre, utilisation, and on‑time performance, identifying opportunities for improvement. Coordinate with Fleet Operations to manage maintenance schedules and vehicle availability. Foster a strong safety culture through proactive risk management and safety leadership. Ensure compliance in accordance with bus accreditation, fatigue management, and safety legislation. Oversee incident investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives. About You You are a proven operational leader with a passion for safety, service excellence, and people leadership. You thrive in a fast‑paced environment and are motivated by the challenge of delivering complex transport operations with precision and professionalism. Qualifications & Experience Minimum 5+ years’ leadership experience in public transport or a similar operational environment. Strong understanding of industry legislation, awards, and agreements. Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and build a high‑performance culture. Commercial acumen with a track record of managing labour budgets and operational performance. Proficiency in operational systems and Microsoft Office applications. Hold Heavy Vehicle Licence MR+ or willing and capable to obtain to support ad hoc driving and on‑road support as required.
