The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Policy Officer to join the Planning and Land Policy branch within the Biodiversity, Conservation and Science Group.
In this role, you will be part of a strategic policy team, that aims to ensure policy and legislation is evidence-based and considers environmental issues, specifically as it relates to biodiversity conservation and land management. To be successful you will need to be able to work autonomously, be an effective communicator and collaborator and capable of developing evidence-based policy advice.
This is an exciting time to join the Department. The independent review of the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 , led by Dr Ken Henry AC, and a statutory review of the native vegetation provisions of the Local Land Services Act 2013 were tabled in Parliament on 24 August 2023. The NSW Government is currently considering both reviews, in consultation with key stakeholders, while developing a whole of government response.
About You
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- Strong understanding of the policy process, including how to effectively develop advice for Senior Executives and Ministers.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to develop and deliver policy initiatives.
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent experience.
