Rangers are the guardians of Queensland’s national parks, forests and reserves—protecting wild places, supporting conservation and helping visitors experience the best of nature. Working with local communities and partners, Rangers dive into everything from land and wildlife management to recreation and safety across landscapes governed by key environmental legislation. With five focus areas—Pest, Fire, Estate, Visitor, and Assets & Safety—no two days look the same As an OO5 Ranger in Ingham, you’ll help lead work programs for the stunning Oak Hills section of Girringun National Park. You’ll head into remote country, guide small teams, work with neighbours and stakeholders, and play a key role in planned burns and bushfire response. If you’re organised, flexible, self-driven and excited by handson outdoor work, this is your adventure waiting to happen. Adventure Awaits - Become an OO5 Ranger in Ingham and Help Protect One of Queensland's Wildest Landscapes If you're dreaming of a job where the outdoors is your office, every day brings new challenges, and your work directly protects Queensland's incredible natural wonders—this is it. As an OO5 Ranger based in Ingham, you'll help lead the care and management of the Oak Hills section of the breathtaking Girringun National Park, home to rugged peaks, rainforest valleys, wild rivers and ancient cultural landscapes. Rangers are the frontline guardians of Queensland's national parks, forests and reserves. They ensure these places remain protected, accessible and loved by all Queenslanders. Working under key environmental legislation, Rangers team up with local communities, Traditional Owners, neighbours, and environmental partners to deliver outstanding land management, conservation and recreational outcomes. It's meaningful work with real impact—and no two days are ever the same. Rangers are multi-skilled, adaptable and hands-on. Depending on operational needs, they dive into five key focus areas: Pest Management, Fire Management, Estate Management, Visitor Management and Assets & Safety. From checking tracks and campsites, to managing invasive weeds, supporting wildlife conservation, repairing assets, engaging visitors and backing up fire crews—you’ll experience it all. If you're the kind of person who thrives on variety and loves rolling up your sleeves, this role will keep you energised and inspired. As an OO5 Ranger, you'll take on leadership responsibilities and help the Ranger-in- Charge plan and deliver work programs for the Oak Hills section of Girringun National Park. You'll head out into remote landscapes, sometimes leading a small team and sometimes working solo, all while making sure the region's work program stays on track. You'll collaborate closely with neighbouring landholders and key stakeholders, building positive partnerships that contribute to better conservation and land management outcomes. Fire management is a key part of this role—and one of the most exciting. You'll contribute to planned burns, bushfire preparedness and frontline response, helping protect ecosystems, communities and cultural values. From lighting strategic burns to supporting firefighting operations, you'll play an active part in shaping the landscape and keeping it resilient. If you've ever wanted a career that lets you mix environmental science with adrenaline—this is your chance. To succeed, you'll need to be organised, flexible, self-motivated and ready for anything. You should enjoy problem-solving, working in dynamic environments and taking initiative. Communication skills, teamwork and the ability to build relationships are essential. But most importantly, you'll bring enthusiasm, curiosity and a genuine passion for caring for wild places. This is more than a job—it's a lifestyle. You'll spend your days surrounded by towering forests, waterfalls, wildlife and remote scenery that most people only experience on holiday. You'll make a real difference for nature, for communities and for future generations. And you'll join a team of passionate, supportive Rangers who love what they do. If you're ready to start an adventure, step into a role with purpose, and help protect one of Queensland's most extraordinary landscapes—then being an OO5 Ranger in Ingham is calling your name. Let your next career move take you outdoors, off the beaten track and into a world of discovery. Applications will remain current for 12 months.
