This scheme recognises the role key health workers play in enabling the delivery of rural and remote health services, and aims to provide incentives over and above award entitlements, to attract and retain staff in these areas. Applicants will be assessed on merit, including skills, experience, and potential. A postgraduate qualification in cancer nursing is required for ongoing appointment. If the preferred candidate does not hold a one, a fixed-term role may be offered with ongoing employment dependent on completing the postgraduate qualification during that time. Candidates without a postgraduate qualification in Cancer Nursing will be supported through the McGrath Foundation’s Associate Pathway. This program includes tertiary education, clinical supervision, and mentorship from the McGrath Foundation’s First Nations Nurse Clinical Lead and Educator. The successful candidate will perform the duties of a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse while completing the required education, supported by both the McGrath Foundation and Far West Local Health District. What You’ll be doing The position provides support, information, and care navigation for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people with a cancer diagnosis, with a particular focus on remote communities within FWLHD. Work in collaborative partnership with existing FWLHD Cancer Services staff, Aboriginal Health Services (eg Maari Ma) and Primary Health Care providers and multidisciplinary team Build and maintain positive relationships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, Elders and Traditional Owners Provides leadership that facilitates the ongoing development of clinical practice that reflects the McGrath Model of Care. Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), with relevant post-registration qualifications and/or at least 3 years' experience working with patients with cancer. Demonstrated ability to practice in accordance with Registered Nurse Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, and Code of Professional Conduct for Nurses (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Demonstrated ability to engage, build and maintain positive relationships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples Demonstrated ability to critically use patient clinical information to manage and navigate care, provide information and education to patients and carers/family, and elevate clinical concerns. Demonstrated ability to work independently as a member of a multidisciplinary team, excellent time management and organisational skills with an ability to meet deadlines. Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communications skills to develop therapeutic relationships with patients, carers and members of the multidisciplinary team. Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout the LHD with potential for some overnight stays.
