First Nations Identified McGrath Cancer Care Nurse First Nations McGrath Cancer Care Nurse Employment Type: Temporary Full Time (until 30th June 2027, possibility of contract extension) Position Classification: Registered Nurse / Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2 (dependent on qualifications and experience) Remuneration: $74,317.94 – $120,469.88 + Superannuation Hours Per Week: 38 Location: Broken Hill, NSW This position qualifies for an annual Recruitment Incentive Package up to $10,000 under the NSW Health Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme. Applicants must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent under Section 14 of the Anti‑Discrimination Act 1977, NSW. What You’ll Be Doing Provide support, information, and care navigation for Aboriginal and non‑Aboriginal people with a cancer diagnosis, focusing on remote communities. Work collaboratively with FWLHD Cancer Services, Aboriginal Health Services (e.g., Maari Ma), Primary Health Care providers and multidisciplinary teams. Build and maintain positive relationships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, Elders and Traditional Owners. Provide leadership that facilitates the ongoing development of clinical practice reflecting the McGrath Model of Care. Qualifications Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. Registered Nurse with AHPRA, with relevant post‑registration qualifications and at least three years’ experience working with cancer patients. Demonstrated ability to practice in accordance with Registered Nurse Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics, and Code of Professional Conduct. Experience engaging with Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander peoples. Ability to use patient clinical information to manage and navigate care, provide information and education, and escalated clinical concerns. Ability to work independently as part of a multidisciplinary team, with excellent time‑management and organisational skills. Effective interpersonal and communication skills to develop therapeutic relationships. Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel within the LHD, including overnight stays. Postgraduate Qualification A postgraduate qualification in cancer nursing is required for ongoing appointment. If the candidate does not yet hold one, a fixed‑term role may be offered on the condition of completing the qualification during the contract. Candidates without a postgraduate qualification will be supported through the McGrath Foundation’s Associate Pathway program, which includes tertiary education, clinical supervision and mentorship.
