Business Development Manager – Brisbane Join to apply for the Business Development Manager role at Wood. About the Role Wood’s Materials business provides global expertise, delivered locally. The Business Development Manager will join our Oceania Materials business, covering Mining and Chemicals markets across all three business units – Consulting, Projects, and Operations. This permanent, full‑time, leadership role is based in Brisbane, supporting the Oceania Growth and Development team in building client relationships and growing the business. Key Responsibilities Identify, validate, and pursue high‑potential opportunities across the mining and chemicals sectors. Build and expand relationships with strategic clients. Support participation in and renewal of framework agreements (track competitor contract expirations for proactive positioning). Lead the “Identify” phase in Wood’s Growth & Development Framework, ensuring opportunities are qualified early and pursued strategically. Leverage intelligence, competitor benchmarking, and client insights to build compelling win strategies and value propositions. Align internal technical expertise and partner networks to strengthen pursuit positioning. Maintain a deep understanding of competitors, pricing models, and local partnerships. Build partnerships within industry to maximise Wood’s chances in multi‑phase or large‑scale project tenders. Work closely with the proposal and commercial teams to support contract negotiations, ensuring alignment with client objectives and commercial frameworks. Engage with clients during the tendering process to address queries, refine pricing strategies, and improve technical alignment. Maintain a customer‑centric approach throughout pursuit stages, ensuring client satisfaction and improved win probability. Lead strategic account management initiatives to strengthen client relationships and ensure long‑term satisfaction and retention. Develop and execute account plans aligned with client objectives and Wood’s business goals. Identify cross‑selling opportunities to maximise account value and support sustainable growth. Maintain all opportunity records in Wood’s Customer Relationship Management, ensuring full accuracy and compliance with governance procedures. Support leadership in forecasting, pipeline management, and business planning. Participate in Wood’s Lead Review meetings, ensuring strategic alignment of pursuits with risk appetite. Promote a strong compliance culture in line with Wood’s business ethics and risk management standards. Qualifications University degree (bachelor’s or master’s) in a relevant discipline, or equivalent combination of qualifications and experience. 15+ years of relevant industry experience supporting a Business Development Manager role. Proven track record of achieving sales targets and driving business growth. Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data effectively. Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment. Knowledge of the Queensland and PNG mining market and industry is required. Additional Experience Proven experience partnering with clients from juniors through to tier one majors, from concept development through project execution in an EPCM contractual model.
