Medical Laboratory Assistant – Pathology Collector / Phlebotomist Employment Type: Permanent Part TimePosition Classification: Technical Assistant Grade 2Remuneration: $32.46 – $33.71 per hour plus superannuationHours per Week: 25Location: Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Balmain HospitalApplications Close: 14 December 2025 – 11:59pm About the Opportunity Join our dynamic Pathology Collections team where your skills directly impact patient care. NSW Health Pathology is seeking a Pathology Collector to work 25 hours per week on a rotating roster, predominantly Monday‑Friday with some weekend work as required. The role will be based primarily at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital with additional sites at Balmain District Hospital and other clinics as needed. What We Can Offer You Generous salary packaging options and other fringe benefits Corporate wellbeing programs, including the Fitness Passport Learning and development opportunities, including in‑house training with RTO My Health Learning What You'll Be Doing Contribute to a high‑quality pathology service by performing a wide range of pre‑analytical and collection duties: delivering safe, accurate venepuncture and capillary sampling; receiving and triaging specimens; completing patient registration and request entry; and ensuring specimens are correctly processed, packaged, and transported for timely diagnostic testing. You will play a key frontline role in patient care, supporting clinicians and laboratories through precise, efficient, and compassionate pathology collection services. Qualifications and Requirements Certificate III in Pathology, Pathology Collections or Pathology Assistance, and/or previous experience in a pathology setting or demonstrated ability to learn all aspects of the pre‑analytical environment, including phlebotomy. Demonstrated ability to manage tasks in a demanding environment with competing priorities and time constraints. Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers, internal and external. Demonstrated problem‑solving and analytical skills and ability to investigate and resolve general issues. Proficient computer skills with high attention to detail and data accuracy; ability to operate and maintain pre‑analytical equipment. Understanding of confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive information in a laboratory setting, following relevant legislation, policies, and requirements. Willingness to participate in a 24/7 rotating shift roster, including weekends, public holidays, and night shifts; able to travel to any site within the operational area as required. Additional Requirements This Category A position requires completion of Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases. All Category A applicants must read and comply with NSW Health Policy Directive PD2024_015. Evidence of compliance must be provided at the applicant’s own cost prior to appointment. The preferred candidate may be required to undergo a functional assessment prior to appointment.
