Apply now Job no: Work type: Contract Full TimeLocation: SydneyCategories: Journalism/Content Making Fixed term, full-time contract for 12 months Unique opportunity to join the ABC election team Base salary $92K - $99K plus 15.4% ABC nominated superannuation The Role The ABC is looking for an election researcher to work closely with the Chief Elections and Data Analyst and to support the creation of timely, trusted election content across ABC platforms. You’ll help manage key databases, produce research materials, and dive into electoral research at local, state, and federal levels. The Job Assist in maintaining and updating election databases, including information on electorates, candidates, MPs, and results. Support the creation and fact-checking of election guides, research materials, and digital content. Assist with managing ABC’s election websites and ensuring timely, accurate updates. Research electoral trends and political developments to help inform editorial coverage. Work with the Chief Elections and Data Analyst preparing for election night broadcasts and related events. Build relationships with election commissions and ABC teams to coordinate election coverage. Contribute to innovative, inclusive election coverage that informs and engages audiences nationwide. Provide research and support for non-election related data journalism. Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience. Strong interest in Australian politics and elections at all levels. Skilled in interpreting and summarising complex political information. Familiarity with programming languages including SQL, R, and/or Python is an advantage but not a prerequisite. Familiar with digital content systems and website updates. Excellent communication, organisation, and teamwork skills. Commitment to authentic storytelling that reflects Australia’s diversity.
