The Role The Continuous Integration Infrastructure (CII) team develops and owns underlying infrastructure for CI and artifact systems that support thousands of engineers across Block. The team is pivotal to the design and management of our expansive and mission-critical CI services. Our mission is to improve developer experience at Block. As a Staff/Principal Software Engineer you would be responsible for the detailed systems design of CI infrastructure. You will build and operate the CI and artifact infrastructure and services that power developer workflows at Block. Your work will shorten feedback cycles, raise release quality and make software delivery reliable, observable and secure. You Will Partner closely with Block Engineering colleagues to define our roadmap Contribute to the growth of our development capabilities through leading, mentoring and supporting fellow engineers Build scalable and reliable infrastructure to support our mission critical CI services, artifact storage and supporting services. Own the CI services and artifact storage end to end and provide strategic direction for these, championing improvement projects. Collaborate across multiple teams, including Developer Experience, Platform Engineering, and Security providing technical guidance and solutions to teams with varying levels of infrastructure knowledge. Build automation for dynamic capacity planning and resource optimization to balance performance and cost efficiency across our AWS infrastructure Consolidate diverse CI platforms into a single unified CI experience that standardises interfaces and tooling for end-users You Have Multiple years of experience at Staff or Principal-level scope and impact across multiple teams Deep experience architecting and operating large-scale CI or build systems in production Deep understanding of containers and related technologies An affinity for designing and implementing secure systems with a focus on supply chain security Strong software engineering skills in one or more of Go, Kotlin, Java, Ruby, or Python and Bash/shell scripting Natural curiosity to learn new technologies, solve interesting problems and build quality software Technologies We Use and Teach Go, Kotlin, Java, Ruby, Python, Bash Use of AI in Our Hiring Process We may use automated AI tools to evaluate job applications for efficiency and consistency.
