Join to apply for the IT Midrange Database Specialist role at Australian Taxation Office We are seeking experienced IT Midrange Database Specialists (Administrators and Engineers) to join our Midrange Database Services team within the Enterprise Solutions and Technology business area. As an IT Midrange Database Administrator, you will be at the forefront of designing, implementing, and optimising SQL Server environments across on‑premises and cloud platforms. Your expertise will ensure our database systems remain secure, scalable, and high performing, supporting critical business operations and future‑ready solutions. You will provide expert technical leadership in managing SQL Server environments across on‑premises and cloud platforms, with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and automation. Responsibilities include providing on‑call support, implementing security controls, optimising database performance, and designing high availability and disaster recovery solutions. The role also emphasises proactive capacity planning, modernisation of architecture, and adoption of emerging technologies like cloud‑native and AI‑driven tools. As an IT Midrange Database Engineer, you are a blend of database engineering and administration expert who applies sound engineering principles, operational discipline, mature development, administration, and automation practices, specialising in databases (particularly Microsoft SQL Server). You will focus on leading the design, automation, and delivery of scalable database solutions within ATO Midrange. It combines strategic and operational responsibilities, including providing on‑call support, modernising infrastructure, developing long‑term architecture and technology roadmaps, and collaborating across government agencies and service providers. You’ll guide teams in assessing current systems, designing sustainable solutions, and advising senior executives, all while ensuring the database environment is robust, future‑ready, and aligned with digital transformation goals. These roles may be offered on an ongoing or non‑ongoing basis in Adelaide, Canberra or Melbourne CBD. Candidates may be considered for both the Midrange Database Administrator and Midrange Database Engineer roles, depending on their skills and experience.
