Equis Australia is leading Australia’s clean energy transition, with an immediate focus on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) followed by Wind and Solar farm developments. Equis’s first BESS project at Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub has reached commercial operation and is being traded by Equis in house Energy Markets Team. By mid 2027, the role will expand to operating Equis NSW Calala BESS, closely followed by QLD and SA BESS projects along with an advanced renewable asset pipeline. Role Overview You will be part of the market leading Equis Energy Markets Team responsible for day to day spot trading and revenue optimisation of Equis Operational assets. Day to day the Spot Trader will work with the broader Energy Markets team to develop and execute the day of and day ahead BESS revenue optimisation strategy. This will include developing and testing new strategies to be implemented via the Battery Auto bidder. The role will provide an opportunity to work with Equis Analytics team to develop market leading in house trading tools that leverage the traders commercial experience and analytical capabilities. The role will involve working as part of the Equis Spot trading roster, across hours of 6am to Midday and 4PM-10pm (3 Weekdays each week), and 10AM – 10PM (every second weekend). Work will be undertaken as a hybrid between Equis Trading Control Room and Working from Home. Job Responsibilities Trading and Market Monitoring : Continuously monitor spot market conditions and adjust strategies in real-time. Back-testing & Simulation : Test strategies using historical data to evaluate performance and robustness. Data Analysis : Utilise in house and third party tools to identify risks and opportunities what will impact spot prices leading to improved trading decisions. Collaboration : Work with cross-functional teams to refine models and improve execution efficiency. What you will need to be Successful Minimum 1 years Energy Markets experience in the following areas: Power Spot and Forward Trading Trading Analysis Direct exposure to BESS and renewable trading (bid stack analysis, assessment of day ahead price and risk factors) Demonstrated experience of working Autonomously e.g. trading shifts without supervision on roster.
